Harihar fort was built in the period of Pankaj Panchariya of Yadava dynasty, Deogiri. This fort was built to keep a watch on the Gonda Ghat trade route. Harihar fort had seen many rulers such as Nizam, Marathas and British. In 1818, captain Briggs captured this fort and took it under the British empire.
