    The base village for the Lingana fort trek is Mohari Gaon. Its around 75km away from Pune. Although there is no direct bus to this village, you can go Mohari Gaon by your private vehicle. Beware the road are in pretty bad conditions nearby the village.

    When I went for the Lingana trek last week, there were more than 5-6 groups came with their trekkers. The total headcount went up to 100+ that day.     When I went for the Lingana trek last week, there were more than 5-6 groups came with their trekkers. The total headcount went up to 100+ that day. Although we reached at the Railing Pathar at 5 AM, my turn for the valley crossing came at around 12.30 PM. Even after the sunset, I was on the top of the Lingana peak. During the Maratha rule, it served as a penal settlement, where prisoners were kept in rock-cut dungeons…some large enough to hold up to 50 inmates. The fort remained under Maratha control until 1818, when it was captured by Colonel Prother during the British campaign against the Maratha Empire.

    Both the spellings are correct. 'Kokan' is used in Marathi language and is widely accepted. 'Konkan' is used in Konkani language.

After you complete the Harishchandragad trek, you can plan to climb Kalsubai peak, the highest peak in Maharashtra. There are other forts in the surroundings such as Hanumantgad Fort, Bhairavgad Fort, Sindola Fort, Hadsar Fort, Jivdhan Fort and Naneghat.

    Harishchandragad falls under the Kalsubai Harishchandragad wildlife sanctuary. Malshej Ghat waterfalls and Pimpalgaon Joga dam are few other worth-seeing places near Harishchandragad.
