During the Maratha rule, it served as a penal settlement, where prisoners were kept in rock-cut dungeons…some large enough to hold up to 50 inmates. The fort remained under Maratha control until 1818, when it was captured by Colonel Prother during the British campaign against the Maratha Empire.

    Is it Konkan or Kokan? Which is correct spelling?

    Both the spellings are correct. 'Kokan' is used in Marathi language and is widely accepted. 'Konkan' is used in Konkani language.

    K2S is considered as a very challenging trek due to the 2 major things. You need to walk a lot. I repeat...a lot. And you have to walk whole night.     K2S is considered as a very challenging trek due to the 2 major things. You need to walk a lot. I repeat…a lot. And you have to walk whole night. Then why do people go on Katraj to Sinhagad night trek, you ask? Well it’s one of the most amazing treks near Pune. You will get an awesome views of the complete Pune city lights. It’s magical.

    I will recommend you to go with the groups. Going alone to the K2S night treks is not advisable. And its more fun if you have a company, right?
