There are many forts in Maharashtra that are very difficult to climb. Although difficulty level depends on a person but considering the expertise needed, total time for the trek and different activities involved for the trek, I am giving my opinion. One of the hardest treks in Maharashtra would be Lingana fort trek. Even regular trekkers consider it as a challenging trek. Lingana is a massive pinnacle. There were rock-cut steps to go to the fort. Unfortunately, these steps are destroyed now that makes Lingana fort almost inaccessible. There are other toughest treks in Maharashtra such as AMK fort trek, Salher fort trek, Bhairavgad trek, etc. Read more: http://bestindiantreks.com/toughest-most-difficult-treks-in-maharashtra/

Then why do people go on Katraj to Sinhagad night trek, you ask? Well it’s one of the most amazing treks near Pune. You will get an awesome views of the complete Pune city lights. It’s magical.

I will recommend you to go with the groups. Going alone to the K2S night treks is not advisable. And its more fun if you have a company, right?

Why to stay on any fort if you could just have a wonderful stay in the nearby city? You can stay in the Pune. There are many more places to explore in the city. Decent accommodation is available in the Pune at affordable price. I will suggest you to experience the stay in the Airbnb rather than staying at the hotel. Also you can always go for the treks to the many forts near Pune. Plan your trip accordingly. Here is the list of forts near Pune, which you can add in your trekking list:

    1. Sinhagad Fort
    2. Rajgad Fort
    3. Lohagad & Visapur Fort
    4. Torna Fort
    5. Purandar Fort etc.

Elephanta caves are in Gharapuri, Mumbai. It's an island on the east side of Mumbai not more than 10 km away. You need to take a ferry from Gateway of India to go to Elephanta Island.

There are 2 different routes to go to Sinhagd Fort from Swargate, Pune.

    1. One route is Swargate- Sinhagad road- Khadakwasla Lake-Sinhagad Fort. This is around 29 km. Also, you can enjoy the beautiful sunset on the return journey at Khadkwasala Lake. This route again split into two different routes. One will take you directly to the Sinhagad Fort using your private vehicle.  And another one is a popular trek route. You will enter from famous Pune Darvaja using this route.
    2. The second route is Swargate – Katraj – Khed – Sinhagad Fort. This route is around 35 km of a distance. This side of a trek is quite easy. You can enter to Sinhagad Fort from Kalyan Darvaja.
