When I google about the toughest treks in Maharashtra. There are so many different opinions from everyone. Every individual has gonna answer this question differently. Most of the people consider Kalsubai Peak is the toughest treks in Maharashtra. Actually, Kalsubai peak is the highest peak in Maharashtra but not the toughest one.
For me, the toughest trek in Maharashtra would be Alang Madan Kulang forts, also known as AMK trek. Alang, Madan and Kulang are three different forts lie in the Kalsubai Range of Western ghats. AMK forts are located at Nashik district, Maharashtra, India. Many climbing and rappelling patches make AMK one of the most difficult treks in Maharashtra.
There are many forts in Maharashtra that are very difficult to climb. Although difficulty level depends on a person but considering the expertise needed, total time for the trek and different activities involved for the trek, I am giving my opinion. One of the hardest treks in Maharashtra would be Lingana fort trek. Even regular trekkers consider it as a challenging trek. Lingana is a massive pinnacle. There were rock-cut steps to go to the fort. Unfortunately, these steps are destroyed now that makes Lingana fort almost inaccessible. There are other toughest treks in Maharashtra such as AMK fort trek, Salher fort trek, Bhairavgad trek, etc. Read more: http://bestindiantreks.com/toughest-most-difficult-treks-in-maharashtra/
I have not visited all the treks in the Maharashtra. And I guess difficulty level is subjective. But for me, the K2S night trek was really tough. We walked for more than 15 km whole night. Our trek started from the Katraj at 9 pm and we reached at the Sinhagad at dawn. Although it was very challenging trek, I really enjoyed the complete experience of the night trek. I will recommend you to go on a Katraj to Sinhagad Night trek at least once.
