The best time to visit Sinhagad fort for in this case any fort is Monsoon time. After the rain, you will get lush green hills. And the atmosphere is just perfect for the trek. I will recommend you to go with the group of friends as it will be a very fun experience.

There are buses available from Swargate to Sinhagad. Google map will be much handy for the Sinhagad trek. Well, there are 2 routes from Pune to Sinhagad.

    1. Swargate-Katraj-Khed Shivapur- Sinhagad Fort
    2. Swargate-Khadakwasla-Sinhagad Fort

I will recommend you to take the Khadakwasla route, as you can spend some time near the Khadakwasla Lake.

Thoptewadi is the base village for the Sinhagad trek. From here you can start your trek. And you will ultimately enter through Pune Darvaja.

There is another route to go to Sinhagad fort which is from Kalyan Darvaja. This route is much easier.

Other than that, if you have a private vehicle then you can directly go to the fort. There is well built parking area.

There are many small stalls selling refreshments. If you are going to Sinhagad fort in your private vehicle then it can take you directly to the fort. No trekking required. Apart from that there are two main ways to climb Sinhagad Fort. One is from Pune Darvaja and another is through Kalyan Darvaja. Sinhagad trek through Pune Darvaja is little difficult and time consuming compared to Kalyan Darvaja route. Sinhagad fort trekking is for the people of all ages. I have seen many kids and elderly aged people during my trail to Sinhagad. So pick your route and have fun on your Sinhagad fort trekking.

The best route from Pune to Sandhan Valley will be by Otur-Kotul-Nirgudwadi-Samrad. You can go there by your own vehicle. The complete journey is time consuming so plan it accordingly.

It is a safe trek and you will probably accompanied by other trekkers too. I will recommend you to go with the group and if possible, hire a tourist guide from nearby village. Trust me, a guide will certainly help you for comfortable and safe experience.

There are other forts nearby such as Ratangad, Harishchandragad, Kokankada and Kalsubai Peak. There are camping facilities available if you want to spend a night at nearby location.

If you want to enjoy the Sandhan Valley trek to its fullest, then go with the trek operators. You will find many trekking groups in Pune. The price will be different for each group but a decent trek operator will definitely plan a safe, comfortable and most important, an enjoyable trek.

K2S night trek is a difficult trek and it will test your patience and stamina. As the name suggests it’s a night trek and you have to walk around 15 km to reach the Sinhagad. The Katraj to Sinhagad Night trek starts from the Old Katraj Tunnel. You need to pass 15 small and big hills. The last few hills are very challenging. The trek starts at evening and you will reach the Sinhagad in the early morning. I will suggest you go with the team or with your friends. There are many K2S night trek organizers in the city. The K2S path is confusing even for the experienced trekkers and you will not get a proper network in the area. Although it is a difficult trek, I still recommend you to go. The views of an entire city from the top of the hills are marvellous. It’s a once in lifetime experience.
