Why to stay on any fort if you could just have a wonderful stay in the nearby city? You can stay in the Pune. There are many more places to explore in the city. Decent accommodation is available in the Pune at affordable price. I will suggest you to experience the stay in the Airbnb rather than staying at the hotel. Also you can always go for the treks to the many forts near Pune. Plan your trip accordingly. Here is the list of forts near Pune, which you can add in your trekking list:

    1. Sinhagad Fort
    2. Rajgad Fort
    3. Lohagad & Visapur Fort
    4. Torna Fort
    5. Purandar Fort etc.

Elephanta caves are in Gharapuri, Mumbai. It's an island on the east side of Mumbai not more than 10 km away. You need to take a ferry from Gateway of India to go to Elephanta Island.

There are buses available from Swargate to Sinhagad. Google map will be much handy for the Sinhagad trek. Well, there are 2 routes from Pune to Sinhagad.

    1. Swargate-Katraj-Khed Shivapur- Sinhagad Fort
    2. Swargate-Khadakwasla-Sinhagad Fort

I will recommend you to take the Khadakwasla route, as you can spend some time near the Khadakwasla Lake.

Thoptewadi is the base village for the Sinhagad trek. From here you can start your trek. And you will ultimately enter through Pune Darvaja.

There is another route to go to Sinhagad fort which is from Kalyan Darvaja. This route is much easier.

Other than that, if you have a private vehicle then you can directly go to the fort. There is well built parking area.

There is a Canon on the Kalavantinicha Buruj. From here you will get a beautiful view of the lush green hills. Spend a whole day on the fort. Explore everything. Enjoy the delicious Pithal Bhakar. Take a nap if you want under a tree. And after 3 PM or so start descend. The plan is to spend the evening at Khadakwasla Lake. The sunset at Khadakwasla Lake is really refreshing. And that’s what all about my plan for the Sinhagad fort trek.

They close the doors of the Sinhagad fort in the late evening. And again open it at early morning. You can also spend a night on the Sinhagad Fort. The night sky is just magical from the Sinhagad fort. You will experience the clear sky and stars in the sky.

Good choice because Sandhan Valley is a very popular tourist destination in Maharashtra. Samrad Village is a base village from where the Sandhan Valley trek starts. Sandhan Valley is around 190-200 km away from Pune.

The best route from Pune to Sandhan Valley will be by Otur-Kotul-Nirgudwadi-Samrad. You can go there by your own vehicle. The complete journey is time consuming so plan it accordingly.

It is a safe trek and you will probably accompanied by other trekkers too. I will recommend you to go with the group and if possible, hire a tourist guide from nearby village. Trust me, a guide will certainly help you for comfortable and safe experience.

There are other forts nearby such as Ratangad, Harishchandragad, Kokankada and Kalsubai Peak. There are camping facilities available if you want to spend a night at nearby location.

If you want to enjoy the Sandhan Valley trek to its fullest, then go with the trek operators. You will find many trekking groups in Pune. The price will be different for each group but a decent trek operator will definitely plan a safe, comfortable and most important, an enjoyable trek.
