During the Maratha rule, it served as a penal settlement, where prisoners were kept in rock-cut dungeons…some large enough to hold up to 50 inmates. The fort remained under Maratha control until 1818, when it was captured by Colonel Prother during the British campaign against the Maratha Empire.

For the official answer, it’s not. All the forts along with Sinhagad fort, are closed due to lockdown restrictions in Maharashtra. Still, some people are going to Sinhagad fort through the trek route. There are police guards at the entrance of the motorable road. And sometimes they also patrol at the trek route. So if you get lucky then you can go on the fort without getting detected. Mostly they will not collect fine rather they will tell you to go back. And if your bad luck is in full bloom, then you will get fined around Rs. 2000/ per person.

It’s a tough call. I will recommend you wait a little more. You can explore other amazing treks such as Katraj to Sinhagad trail till the Waghjai Temple Hill Top.

On friendship day, I along with my few friends went there. There was a drizzle & the atmosphere was surreal. You should explore this place. From the top (viewpoint Pune city) you can see the Pune cityscape.

You can take your bikes to the Waghjai Temple Hilltop (mostly higher cc bikes). I hope you have got your answer. Have fun! Don’t forget to share your experience with us. 😉

In addition, Kokankada is also the worth-exploring point on the fort. There are few temples on the fort. Kedareshwar Cave Shiva temple is the most surprising one. It is mostly filled with water. You may have seen photos of the Shiva temple with three broken pillars.

Apart from that, there is Harishchandreshwar temple, Ganesh Temple, many caves and a lake known as Saptatirtha Pushkarni.
